Occlusal Plates

Custom made occlusal plates
Commonly referred to as bite plates, occlusal plates are used to rectify various dental and global health problems. Depending on the situation, an occlusal plate is placed on the lower or the upper jaw and is usually made from clear acrylic. Bite plates prevent the upper teeth from touching the bottom teeth. This keeps jaw muscles relaxed and adequately treats pain to the temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ). It also prevents harmful consequences from happening due to bruxism (grinding of the teeth). When left untreated, bruxism can lead to premature wear of teeth, headaches, jaw pain, restless sleep and other problems.
The Caroline Marsan denturology clinic develops custom made bite plates from the impression of your jaws. After the first placement, the occlusal plates will be adjusted to make sure they are comfortable and adhere perfectly to your teeth.
